Evaluation

Final piece

This is my final piece for this project, I decided to doter my final idea by removing the UFO and doing the idea of lots of silhouettes of aliens. I started of  by getting a A3 wooden frame and cutting a piece of wooden board down to size to fit on top of the frame. I then secured the wooden board to the frame using a glue gun, pressing down thoroughly round the edges to make certain that it had fused together. The next stage was painting the board I decided to paint the very bottom black using acrylic paint and the very top part white also using acrylic. For the mid section I wanted to create a ombre, faded look with no harsh lines. I wanted it to look effortless like the sky! so using a paint brush I began at the bottom painting and as I moved upward towards the white I kept adding more white paint to the black to create a dark grey then light grey until I got to the white section. To make sure it was blended well with no lines I used a dabbing method where I would dab the paintbrush until it all came together to create a smoky hazy sky. The edges of the frame needed painting so I made the decision of painting it plain black so the face of the board would stand out more. My next step was making the alien figures, I put the wooden board to one side to dry and began cutting out figures In gold, silver and dark grey foil like material. This was quite a challenge as the material was quite thin and delicate so I had to have a steady hand and make sure I didn't rip it when moving the scissors. Once all the mini figures were cut out I began arranging them on the now dry painted wooden board, trying to create a sort of random, mixed look. Once I was happy with the arrangement I stuck them all down with prit stick glue. Lastly I had to secure some kind of hanging mechanism so I was able to put my work on display at the exhibition at Beeston library. I found the best way was to screw two eyed hook like screws either end of the final piece, then threading some string through a couple of times and tying it in a knot to make a loop. I am really happy with my final piece and think the faded sky compliments the shiny figures really well.

Overload of beings

I really liked the idea of taking them foiled figures in my "possible final idea"
post and putting loads of them grouped together so they look endless and quite threatening! I just simply drew them each individually out in pencil to see what it would look like before i went ahead and cut out lots of them in foil. Personally i really liked the outcome and thought it looked really effective with many of them quite close together asif there an army coming in to destroy anything that gets in there path.

Final piece idea

This was an idea for my final piece, it consists of a faded mysterious night sky with two alien like figures stood hand in hand staring up to the night sky like they have just landed on earth and looking at there UFO! The space ship is made out of silver foil and the alien figures are made out of charcoal grey foil. I really wanted to create the sense of the unknown and asif the figures are close together for comfort as they embark on being on planet earth...

UFO

This is a unused paper plate i found lying around college, it had a silver like foil finish on the side which you would eat of. This silver like foil is what i needed for the cover of my scrapbook, after scrunching the plate up and removing the silver foil it left a crinkled sort of residue which looked almost trippy and shimmered when the light hit it. This reminded me of a UFO (spaceship) so i decided to trim the plate down and stick it in my scrap book on a black acrylic painted backround.

My Alien drawings

This is a drawing using a HB pencil first to sketch the outlines and shade areas which will be darker to create the shadows, then I went over the piece in a fine liner. To create detail I pressed very lightly to make the lines and creases soft and subtle. i really like how those fine lines make the drawing look almost wrinkly especially on the forehead. I also like how dark the eyes are in comparison to the rest of the face which makes the alien look demonic and quite frightening.

For this drawing i used black acrylic paint and a palette knife to create a rough, textured background which ties in with the look of the alien in the centre. I really wanted to make this drawing striking and freaky, which is why i made the alien look sort of roughly, slanted eyed and have sharp teeth.

Our classes completed work in the exhibition

This is Alice's final piece of one direction band member Niall Horan. i believe she used hammer beads. It is now on display at Beeston library.
This is a classmate of mine Sonya's final piece up in Beeston library for our exhibition.
This piece of work belongs to college student Tilly, i think she used oil based pastels to create the blue background. this is currently hanging on display in Beeston library.
This is Lewis piece of work for the college exhibition, i believe it is based on stars and how they join together.
